Yehudi Menhuin School Guitar Day
Guitar Day at the Menuhin School
On Sunday 22 April 2012, the Yehudi Menuhin School is commemorating its Founder’s Day (the anniversary of Lord Menuhin’s birth) with a day of events dedicated to the guitar. Starting at 2.00pm there will be open workshop sessions, led by YMS guitar teacher Richard Wright, for guitarists of all ages and abilities. This will be followed by a masterclass with Jonathan Leathwood and the School’s four current guitar pupils.
At 6.30pm there is an extended Founder’s Day concert with a supper interval of one hour. In the first half past pupils Tom Ellis and Laura Snowden join the current pupils in a programme of solos, duos and chamber music by Coste, Brahms, Falla, Piazzolla, Stephen Dodgson and Colin Downs. The second half features Mélange à Trois, a new and unique ensemble comprising violinist and YMS alumna Kathy Gowers, guitarist Jonathan Leathwood and jazz double bass player Chris Hill. Their programme consists of café-style treatments of popular violin repertoire from Sarasate to Kreisler, including gypsy tunes, bluegrass, and music from Venezuela and Brazil.
Admission to the Workshops and Masterclass are free but prior booking is required.
