The ultra-light soundboard of the Alma associated with its flamboyant tight grain Nicaraguan Cocobolo sides and back give this model a quality of sound worthy of a concert guitar. The Alma has a rich silky complex sound. It responds rapidly and precisely with a big reserve of power and colorful tone.

JLJ uses proprietary soundboard technology. The sub-soundboard is made out of composite materials superposed with tonewood (either Sitka Spruce or Red Cedar for most of the instruments) for the upper part - A kind of double top made into one. This is JLJ own technology and no other manufacturer makes guitars like this. All of JLJ guitars, even the most expensive models at 10,000 Euros, use multi-layered sides and back. In the case of Alma it is: Cocobolo for the outer layer, Mahogany for the middle layer, and Indian Rosewood for the interior layer. JLJ manufacture the guitars to have the best sound possible and adapt the construction accordingly - JLJ builds the sound into the guitar.
