Applying for a NYGE Audition

WHAT AGE AND STANDARD DO I NEED TO BE TO APPLY FOR NYGE:
> Between the ages of 13 - 18 years old on the 1st September on the year of the audition.
> The equivalent standard of Grade 6 or above (the ensemble averages at a Grade 7/8 standard).
WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE AND WHAT HAPPENS AT THE NYGE AUDITION:
The aim of the audition is for the candidate to display their talents and ensemble skills to the NYGE panel in a supportive and positive atmosphere. The audition lasts for approx. 20 minutes and gives the candidate a unique opportunity to perform and interact with the panel.
Each candidate will be asked to prepare the following:
> Free choice solo piece:
You will be asked to perform a short or one movement solo piece the equivalent of Grade 6 - 8 standard. This is your chance to shine so please choose a piece you enjoy and are comfortable with.
> Two quick study pieces:
20 minutes before the audition you will be presented with two solo and two duet quick study pieces. You will be asked to choose one solo and one duo quick study pieces to perform in the audition, the latter to be performed alongside one of the panel members.
> Questions from the panel:
During the audition the panel may ask the candidate questions related to the free choice and chosen quick study pieces that they have just performed. The questions are designed to test both the candidates musical knowledge, technical facility and how well the candidate adapts to direction given from the panel.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE AUDITIONS
Successful applicants are invited to attend two annual residential courses led by musical director Gerald Garcia, and to perform alongside world renowned guest artists at prestigious festivals and concert venues. The courses and concerts take place at Easter and in the Summer. The cost of each course is approximately £360 (subject to change) and NYGE work hard to offer a range of bursaries to students in financial difficulty.
