Lorenzo Micheli

Born in 1975, Lorenzo Micheli studied in Milan with Paola Coppi and graduated with full marks cum laude at the G. Tartini Conservatory, Trieste, in 1996. After studying with Frédéric Zigante at the Fondation Mozart in Lausanne, he was a pupil of Oscar Ghiglia at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and, later, at the Musik-Akademie in Basel, where he obtained the Solistendiplom in 2000. He is a laureate of several international competitions, including first prizes at the XXI Gargnano Competition (1996), the XXX Città di Alessandria - M. Pittaluga Competition (1997) and the M. Giuliani Competition (1999); ARAM Prize in Rome (1999) and second prize at the XLIII Maria Canals Competition, Barcelona (1997). He was the first Italian to win the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America Competition (Charleston 1999).

Lorenzo Micheli appears regularly throughout the world as a soloist and with orchestra. He has toured Italy, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Poland, Nigeria, Mexico, Canada, the U.K. and over 60 American cities, playing in such major centres as Rome, Los Angeles, Madrid, Boston, Philadelphia, Milan, New Orleans, Warsaw, Cracow, Dallas, San Francisco, Miami, Geneva, Memphis, Chicago, Portland, Denver, Lagos, Salt Lake City, San Diego and Vancouver. He has given masterclasses at universities and music festivals throughout North America and Europe, and made recordings for radio and TV in three continents.
