John Sloboda
John Sloboda is Professor of Psychology at Keele University in the UK, where he directs the Unit for the Study of Musical Skill and Development. He is internationally known for his books on the psychology of music, which include The Musical Mind, Generative Processes in Music, Musical Beginnings, Perception and Cognition of Music, and Music and Emotion. Professor Sloboda is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and has been President of both the Psychology and General Sections of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as President of the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music, where he serves on the editorial board of its journal Musicae Scientiae. He also serves on the editorial boards of Psychology of Music, Music Perception, and Psychology Teaching Review. He was recipient of the 1998 British Psychological Society’s Presidents Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychological Knowledge. His current research interests include the study of music performance, emotional response to music, functions of music in everyday life, and learning and skill acquisition in music.
